Activity 3: Stranger than Fiction
Here on earth there are more than 298 000 different kinds (species) of plants. Some of these plants live on land and some live in the water. Follow this link to read about 10 of the strangest plant species in the world. When you are finished, choose two of the plants from the list.
On your blog, list three similarities and three differences between the two plants that you chose. To earn five extra bonus points, post a picture of both plants on your blog..
Tena Koe Rowana,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea to create a Venn diagram for this activity! It is a perfect way to compare and contrast two different plants. I can see that you've chosen Hydnellum Peckii and White Baneberry to talk about on your blog. Pretty unique names for a plant, huh?
I was shocked when I first saw the picture of Hydnellum Peckii. I can't believe how it can produce blood its surface. It would be no surprise that this plant also has an unpleasant odor. YUCK! Would you like to see this plant in real life?
I just wanted to quickly talk about the difference between the words 'edible' and 'inedible'. 'Edible' means that can be eaten without harm where as 'inedible' means the opposite. Did you know that Hydnellum peckii is an inedible fungus even though it is non-toxic? You would not be severely harmed even if you do end up eating it but apparently it has a bitter taste.
On the contrary, all parts of White Baneberry (especially its berries and root) are poisonous which means they are also inedible!
I hope you learned something new from reading my comment! You have done an awesome job completing this activity.
Happy blogging,
Susie :)
