Summer Learning Journey Day 3 Activity 1

Summer Learning Journey Day 3 Activity 1

In 1996, New Zealand adopted the MMP voting system. In September of 2017 we had a national election. Everyone in New Zealand, over the age of 18, was invited to vote for who they wanted to form the next government in New Zealand. The race was really close and in the end, three different political parties (Labour, New Zealand First and the Green Party), came together to form the new government. It is called a ‘coalition government’ because it includes different people from different political parties.

Imagine that you had to form a coalition government with two other people.  Who would you choose to partner with?

I would form a coalition with my son, Aronui, and with my friend, Amber. Aronui would be a great addition to the coalitio

I would create a coalition with my cousin Latai and my other cousin Mele Seini. Latai is a very formal, creative and humble person and she is definitely a person that would make things right and make sure that everything is organised and sorted. Mele Seini is a very smart person, she is very reliable and anything that goes pass her she gets through it. Together as a team, I reckon we could go higher, This would be my coalition team.

  1. Kia Ora Rowana,

It sounds like you have assembled a great team of people to form your coalition government. Both Mele and Latai sound like excellent team members and really lovely people. I hope that you had the chance to hang out with them over the summer holiday!

See you at school early in Term 1 when I come to hand out the SLJ prizes and certificates.

    Cheers,
    Rachel :)
