Summer Learning Journey Day 4 Activity 2

Summer Learning Journey Day 4 Activity 2

Activity 2: Country Calendar
Did you know that the longest running television show in New Zealand history is a programme called ‘Country Calendar’? It started on 6 March 1966 and has been running ever since. The programme includes stories of everyday New Zealanders, many of whom are farmers.

Watch this short clip from Country Calendar. What do you think would be the most interesting and/or challenging things about being a farmer? Would you would like to be a farmer when you are older. Why/why not? Give us, at least, two reasons to support your answer.

I would love to be a farmer so I can feed different animals, and we can also harvest many things like corn, cabbage, carrots and many different other vegetables. But one of the challenging things in being a farmer is that you have to always keep an eye out on your animals and also planting. other challenging thing in becoming a farmer is that you have to work everyday and always feed your animals and to clean up there mess.

  1. Hey again Rowana, it's awesome to hear that you'd enjoy working as a farmer. It's a very active job, you have to get up really early to milk the cows. I'd imagine it would be quite tough on your body, but you'd get really fit. It might be fun being your own boss though, and not having to answer to anybody but yourself. You could do things whenever you want.

I wouldn't mind feeding the animals but I wouldn't want to clean up their mess.

What animals would you have on your farm?

    Thanks, Billy
